Food for the Soul

I love this guy... did you know that I met him and had lunch with him {me and 200 other people but whatever} at BYUI before he was an apostle? Elder Uchtdorf, Elder Bednar, and Elder Scott have a soft spot in my heart... I cant wait to see what they talk about at General Conference this week...

Here's a spotlight from the Women's conference:

You are not forgotten.

Sisters, wherever you are, whatever the circumstances may be, you are not forgotten. No matter how dark your days may seem, no matter how insignificant you may feel, no matter how overshadowed you think you may be, your Heavenly Father has not forgotten you. In fact, He loves you, with an infinite love.

—President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Monday Rants

Blogging doesnt count as media does it?
My church is doing a media fast this week to get ready for General Conference.
We are supposed to go the whole week without TV and Internet and Music and Texting.. Im dying and its only been 24 hours! So I decided that blogging doesnt count.

It's Monday and I hate it. So here is what is annoying me today:

1. When you buy sparkly nail polish cause the picture looks like its saturated, but in fact its like clear with sparkle flakes... stupid

Exhibit A- this is annoying

Exhibit B- this is what I was going for

2. Annoying people outside stores. I hate when I'm walking up to a store {It was Target today} and some guy with a clip board asks me if Im a registered voter... none of your business, I just want to go into Target... if youre cute and you have cookies in your hand, feel free to sell me some...otherwise leave me alone!

3. People that are lazy and expect everyone to cater to them. Example- in June we started telling parents that their kids had to have a whooping cough shot before they could come to school in the fall. Fall came around, 200 students showed up without the shot. We gave them a 30 day extension... go get the shot. Today 20 parents calling and yelling at me cause they have 4 days to get the shot and their doctor doesnt have an open appointment... not my fault, and not my problem. "but my kids gonna get kicked out of school and I dont have day care!" well you should have gotten the shot 4 months ago when I told you to in the first place. Take some responsibility people!

4. When its 60 degrees in the morning and over cast, so I wear a {light} sweater and boots, then by noon its sunny and 80 degrees... seriously people make up your mind!

5. When job descriptions dont tell you how much they pay. Its annoying and why does it have to be a secret? Obviously I dont want to take the time to apply for a job that doesnt pay enough for me to live off of.

6. Everything pumpkin flavored. The second fall rolls around its pumpkin bread and pumpkin cookies and pumpkin rolls, etc. I dont like pumpkin stuff, so please lets include some chocolate flavored recipes. Thanks
7. Having to wait until THURSDAY to see my sisters, my mom and MY NIECES! Longest week of my life... why cant I just call in sick the rest of the week and take off to Arizona today?

Why does every Monday suck?

Sometimes it happens

I got new nail polish. Its called 'gun metal' and I am super excited about it.
I took my precious doing the first coat to make sure it was perfect.

Five minutes later, Kobe attacked my hands {he hates, like to the point of growling, the smell of nail polish}messed up 4 of the nails... ticked.

So I go to take it off and redo those 4 nails. I get the nail polish remover and some cotton balls. Of course the cotton balls get stuck into 3 or my non dry remaining perfectly painted nails. I try and try and try to get that nail polish off, but its just not happening. I try soaking them in the remover and nothing, not a dent. Why is the remover just not working? This polish must be industrial strength or something...

By this time I am super annoyed at the whole process. I google alternatives to getting nail polish off, find nothing, so I just start picking at the polish of my 7 ruined nails.
I get up and go into the bathroom to find a nail file and instead I find the nail polish remover... that's strange, I didnt know that I had two bottles.

Come to find out, I was actually trying for a good thirty minutes to remove my polish with hydrogen peroxide. Blonde moment and I have never been blonde. The most pointless hour of my life thus far.

Holiday's are comin!

Normally I am against people dressing dogs up in clothes. The only exceptions are special occasions like a sports game, a wedding or birthday, or a holiday.

Richard about flipped last year when I dressed Kobe up as a bumble bee for Halloween. I thought it was adorable!

So this year I am thinking of something a little more masculine... should he be a cow or Batman?

Yes, it was hot!

I live in San Diego. The weather is supposed to be perfect. Last week, it wasn't. It was BLOODY HOT! Like late 90's early 100's

Ok... I know I know... I grew up in Texas, and I know what real heat is. 90's doesnt sound like that bad... just lay out at the beach and you'll be fine... right?

WRONG! Most of San Diego doesnt have air conditioning. Most houses and apartments and even schools have NO AIR! We're not use to having bad heat, so nothing was built with air conditioning. And those of us that have jobs and don't live at the beach, sweat it out...

(ok ZONIES I dont want to hear it... I know its like 115 there, but you go from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car to your air conditioned job... so you cant relate... sorry)

So Im sitting in my office which is 97 degrees on the inside. I have three fans in my face blowing hot air. So I revel in my 20 minute drive home with the car's A/C, and I get home to 95 degrees inside the house with a hundred fans blowing hot air. Its too hot to turn on the stove or oven, so we eat microwave food or sandwichs... MISERABLE... but it gets worse!

On Thursday like around 3:30 the power goes out. Im at work and we're having some construction, so I figure they just did something. I head home and realize that all the stop lights are out. Not only that, but the power is out at most of the stores Im driving by. A lot of the radio stations were fuzzed out too... strange. My gas light turns on, so I pull into a gas station, only to realize that the pumps rely on electricty.

Sucks... so I get home and it hits me... no electricity= NO FANS, NO COLD DRINKS, NO ICE, NO STORES TO HANG OUT IN TO GET COOL, etc... DEATH! It was 95 degrees and there was no escaping it or getting cool.
{not to mention the fact that my phone was dead and I dont have a car charger... not that it matters cause I was out of gas and couldnt drive anywhere any way!}

We listened to our neighbors battery powered radio and found out that all of San Diego county, over to Palm Springs, down to Rosarito Mexico were out of power. No one had any idea about what caused it. People were saying everything from Terrorists to Aliens.

Since it was too hot for any one to sit in the house, it was like a block party. Everyone was hanging out outside, the pool was completely full from edge to edge... poor Kobe was panting to death {I kept him on wet towels and continuously sprayed him with a squirt bottle}

All the stores and gas stations and restaurants were closed. Traffic was a disaster, no one knew what to do. It was like a natural disaster, and thankfully I was prepared with flash lights and back up {hot} water.

We all slept in the living room {since it has the best air flow} a lot of people slept outside, or on the beach. And by slept I actually mean layed there sweating to death and too hot to move.

The power came on the next morning around 8 and I cried... that 18 hours was the most miserable of my life. I truly have a testimony of electricity, you never realize how much you need it until you dont have it anymore. No internet, no TV, no radio {unless you have batteries} no cell phones {the towers were down} no gas for the car, no debit card purchases... the list goes on and on! We were truly out of touch with the world, and it was weird.

They found out that something in the power lines between California and Arizona blew out. It took them 12 hours to find the problem, but they fixed it pretty quick once they did. That is a very widespread power outage... a lot of people and businesses affected.

What would you do without electricity?

Sometimes you just need to hear it

Read this talk by Elder Holland...
It's one of those right things at the right time for me

Are you battling a demon of addiction—tobacco or drugs or gambling, or the pernicious contemporary plague of pornography? Is your marriage in trouble or your child in danger? Are you confused with gender identity or searching for self-esteem? Do you—or someone you love—face disease or depression or death? Whatever other steps you may need to take to resolve these concerns, come first to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Trust in heaven’s promises. In that regard Alma’s testimony is my testimony: “I do know,” he says, “that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions.” 13

If you are lonely, please know you can find comfort. If you are discouraged, please know you can find hope. If you are poor in spirit, please know you can be strengthened. If you feel you are broken, please know you can be mended.
